This article shows how to set up an Adyen payment terminal in the POS settings. Depending on your structure in the Adyen Portal, most fields can be inherited from store or company level. Values that are shared across the entire store should be set at store level, so you don't have to fill in the same information for each individual POS.
How to fill in the fields
You'll find the settings under Admin > Settings > POS > Edit POS settings > Payment providers.
Adyen – Enabled
Set to Yes to activate Adyen as the payment provider on the POS.
Test mode
Leave on No in production. Only enable this if you're testing against a test terminal.
Use local communication
Set to Yes if the POS should communicate directly with the terminal over the local network. Select No if you're using cloud-based communication with Adyen.
IP Address
Enter the IP address of the payment terminal, for example 172.18.1.11. This field must be overridden per POS, since each terminal has its own IP. You'll find the IP address on the terminal itself under the terminal's admin menu.
Live endpoint prefix
Prefix for communication with Adyen. The value is retrieved from the Adyen Portal.
Use Pay by Link
Set to Yes if the store will use the Pay by Link feature, where the customer is sent a payment link.
Merchant account
The Adyen merchant account used for Pay by Link. Only fill this in if Pay by Link is enabled. The value is provided by the Adyen Portal.
Terminal currency
Default currency for the terminal, for example NOK. Must match the currency on the Adyen merchant account.
Encryption key identifier
Unique ID for the encryption key used with the terminal. The value is defined in the Adyen Portal and must be the same across all POSes in the store.
Encryption key passphrase
The password that decrypts the encryption key. Treat this as sensitive information, it should not be shared via email or chat.
Encryption key version
Version number of the encryption key. Usually starts at 1 and is increased by 1 each time the key is rotated in Adyen.
Key
The encryption key itself. Typically set at company level and inherited down to stores and POSes.
Remember to save the settings
Click Save when all fields are filled in. It may take up to 15 minutes before the POS syncs the change — alternatively, restart the POS app.
Test the integration by starting a test sale and paying by card. If the POS can't connect to the terminal, check that:
- The terminal is on the same network as the iPad
- The IP address in the IP Address field matches the terminal's actual IP
- The encryption key, ID and passphrase are set correctly at the right store or company level
Still can't connect? Follow the Adyen wizard in the Front Systems app to set up the terminal again, or contact support@frontsystems.com.
